Dear Friends,
Yes, I’m still on vacation…this message is Part 2 of “Lenten Renewal” which I prepared for you….
A few weeks ago in this weekly email, I encouraged you to ask you someone to your home for a meal as a way of sharing Christ’s love and hospitality with them. Jesus is the Bread of Life. I hope you have/will consider this as part of your Lenten renewal. I also want to ask you to be intentional in 2 other practices for the rest of Lent. As believers, these are practices that we say we do or we intend to do every week: prayer and worship. But isn’t it true that we can neglect these practices especially when we go through dark winters. Well, it’s springtime which means rebirth!
1. From now until Easter I’m asking you to be in Sunday worship if at all possible. I know some will be travelling; some are going through very demanding times with their health or jobs. Given all that, it would be great to see you! It might even seem like Christmas again with all us together at one time.
2. Also, I ask you to pray for our church each day. That may be prayers for those on our Concerns list, prayers for our leaders and partners in the community/state, prayers for our ministries including Sunday worship, prayers for visitors, and especially for our mission endeavors: the Food Pantry, Starbucks Bible study, Health Ministry, and Contemporary Worship. These are all vitally important and we are praying that each one of them take root and grows and grows.
On Sunday, I will be preaching on John 14:6 “I AM The Way, The Truth, and The Life.” This is not an easy passage by any means. It is part of what is called the Farewell Discourse as Jesus turns his eyes toward Jerusalem and the Cross. So, it is fitting that we should consider it here at the end of Lent. I encourage you to read John 14:1-7. Consider the Way of Jesus. How would you describe the Way of Jesus to someone else? If they looked at your life would they say it was your way too?
God be with you till we meet again…
Peace, Pastor Amber
